The docHighway™
In Windows servers almost all documents are eventually
converted into EMF format. The EMF format is the language
that programs use when they are talking to print drivers
or other document object generators.
The spooler for docHighway catches documents as they leave
the generating program and before they reach the normal
windows spooler. The documents are in an EMF format at this
point and a document information object is also provided.

Documents that originate in other systems like, IBM AS400
or mainframes, Linux, Unix, and Apple are converted into
EMF documents by other APWI programs such as HostServe,
NetServe, and IPDSXpress.
Document generation can loosely be defined as On Net and
Off Net.
For On Net documents the control of the advanced printing
features usually resides with the user. This control is
implemented by an IM module, or in some instances an email,
that allows the user to interact with the printing system.

The IM system allows the user control of the printing system.
The features controlled are:
- Enter Account Data
- Turn Off and On Secure Printing Database function
- Adding Document Return Routing, Usually barcodes
- Physical Printer Secure Printing
- Media Printing Capability
- Document Routing and Communications
- Printing Competition and Location
For Off Net jobs and some server based On Net printing,
controls are available via the Print Client. The features
controlled are:
